Woven Birds Nest Lampshades
Inspired by nature
Katherine makes her shades using pussy willow and contorted willow grown on her allotment, and from budding stems, foraged from local hedgerows and woodlands. Each shade is unique and a beautiful art piece - even when not illuminated. Katherine says: “Nests are a place of refuge and comfort, so my shades create this same feeling of being cocooned. I’m intrigued by the apparent chaotic weaving of nest, which always results in a beautifully woven form. I like to forage for materials in the autumn and winter, when trees and shrubs are dormant. This is the best time to see different patterns, forms, textures and colours of the flora." Katherines rustic new lighting range is inspired by her long-term fascination with bird and animal nests. Using dried plants and flowers gathered from the Dartmoor countryside, Katherine skilfully weaves stems into bespoke, nest-shaped lampshades for the home. The shades are designed to cast soft, atmospheric shadows, so are ideal for lighting up a cosy corner, hanging over a dining table or displaying as a statement piece in a bedroom or living room. |
